Summary of Discussions About Racism

During the last two lessons of English, we have had discussions about racism around the world. Our teacher gave us discussion questions in order to get a good debate going.

From what I saw and heard during the discussion, everyone in our class do agree that racism is a big problem in our society. We also discussed things such as whether racism was taught or not, and after a few minutes of debate, we all agreed that racism is indeed taught by either someone or something.

We also watched two short anti-racism ads. In the first one, a person was putting on some kind of facial cream. The thing with the cream though was that it made the person uglier instead. At the end of the ad, it was revealed that the cream she was putting on was "racism".

The second clip was called "What would you do?" and it was a social experiment. In the video, a white person and a black person tried to steal a bike, in order to get reactions from the strangers that were passing by. When the white kid was trying to steal the bike, people got suspicious and asked him what he was trying to do, but nobody responded with calling 911. When the black kid was trying to steal the bike, the people instantly responded with aggressive personal attacks and calling 911.

We also discussed punishments for those guilty of racism but didn't really come up with any good examples.

Growth Mindset Essay

The most important thing I have learned whilst working with Growth Mindset is that you can constantly become smarter as long as you keep practicing.

This has to do with a thing called a "neuron". These very small pieces filled with information, all combined together, is what creates you brain.

Whenever you learn something new, your neurons will reshape create new memories inside your brain. Learning something does not have to be something you learn in school. For example, I learned how to properly use a longboard thus. While I was practicing, my brain created new memories of everything from how to turn in time to how to gain a lot of speed by accelerating at the right moment.

Whenever you make a mistake you should always see it as a challenge to learn something new and not as a fail or something negative. If you do this, you will have a much better chance at  succeeding the next time you try to finish a similar task, since you will have the possibility to take on the challenge with a positive mindset and attitude.

Another important thing to think about is that the only reason why can't complete a certain task is because you do not have the required knowledge yet. Yet is a very powerful word since it means that you will be able to do it, sooner or later. Therefore yet is a very powerful word to keep in mind whenever you're taking on a challenge.

Another very important thing to keep in mind while learning new things is that you should never, ever hesitate to ask a friend, a parent or a teacher if there's something you don't understand. If someone knows the answer and can explain to you in a good way, you will without a doubt learn something new from him or her.

Another good thing to keep in mind is to never compare your work to somebody else's work. Instead, you should compare your work to what you have created and finished earlier. This way you will be able to tell weather you were able to do better this time compared to your last time completing a similar task. And if not, what you did wrong this time around.

If you keep comparing yourself to others all the time, there's a big risk that you might end up in what's known as "the dip". The dip is when you start getting feelings such as anxiety or stress during a project. The dip occurs if you start feeling like you are not as good as the other people that are trying to complete the same task. It's actually pretty easy to escape the dip since all you have to do is come to the realization that you can finish whatever you want as long as you keep practicing and learn new things.

A day with André "iddqd" Dahlström

André "iddqd" Dahlström is a professional Overwatch player. What this means is that he basically plays a computer game on a professional level. He streams his gaming sessions on the website Twitch.tv and I really enjoy watching him and his friends have fun together. Before André started playing Overwatch he worked as a security guard on a four star hotel.

If I were to spend a day with André we would probably just sit and play Overwatch all day long together. He would probably invite some of his teammates so that we would be able to queue up as a full six-man team.

From his streams you can clearly tell that André is a very laid back guy who takes everything with a grain-pinch of salt. This got me thinking that once we (finally) got done playing Overwatch we would probably go to some pizzeria to get something to eat.

Since he streams on the evenings i could probably come on his stream and be with him and his friends until late at night as well.

Growth Mindset Season 2 - Part 2

What should you do when you make a mistake?

When you make a mistake you should stop and reflect on what you did wrong and try to fix it. If you do this you'll learn from your mistake and it will make sure that you won't do the same mistake ever again.

What will happen if you continue to repeat this process?

If you continue to repeat this process as soon as you make a mistake it will develop your neurons and make your brain smart enough to never make the mistakes again. Basically, your neurons will make new connections and you will never make the same mistake.

So how do we escape the dip?

You escape the dip by practicing and learning how to stop and reflect on what you did wrong. If you constantly practice this you will learn how to make it out of the dip, faster and faster everytime.

Growth Mindset Season 2 - Part 1

What is a dip?

A "dip" is an illustration of the short period of time when you just feel like you can't complete a certain task.

Where/what situations might we encounter a dip in?

We can encounter a dip whenever we try to finish a certain task. For example, we can encounter a dip when we try to finish a project in school or when we try to do something else in life.

What kind of emotions can accompany a dip, and how can we stay positive?

A dip is most likely going to be accompanied by sadness and slight anger. You will also most likely get a small feeling of being let down by yourself. A good way to stay positive throughout a dip is to always keep in mind that sooner or later you will get out of the dip as long as you keep on trying new solutions for the problem.

Growth Mindset Part 4 and 5

Part 4

1. According to the video, the brain is built up by neurons. These neurons work together to help you learn. The neurons communicate with each other by sending electrical signals that contain information about new things you have learned.

2. According to the video every single time you learn something new, the neurons reshape and create new memories of what you can do and what you know. If this is true then I have loads of examples of when I got some new connections in my brain. For example, when I was at Vattenhallen for a week I learned how to program a robot. Since this was a new experience for me, my neurons reshaped and formed a memory.

3. I could basically do anything as long as I learn something new from it. For example, I could go out with my new longboard and learn how to use it properly. That way my neurons would reshape to create new memories of how to properly use a longboard.

Part 5

1. Whenever I feel like something is "too" challening, I will always ask for help. Help is always the best thing to go for since someone has to know the answer to the problem.

2. It's always important to face challenges with a positive attitude because you will always go longer if you are able to face your problems with a positive attitude.

3. Absolutely not! Taking a break is basically the best thing you can do. Taking a break will let the brain reflect over what you have learned so far. If you just keep pumping information and facts into your brain for hours straight, it will most likely lead to you forgetting half the facts you've learned.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Growth Mindset - Part 3

1. I would ask the teacher or my friend for help with the project, since at least somebody must know the answer or a possible solution for the problem.

2. I can't remember a single time I've been afraid of asking for help. Asking is something natural and it can only bring positive things.

3. I am not really sure why "yet" would be considered a very powerful word, but I guess it's because it shows how important it is to keep trying. Basically you just have to keep on training your brain until you finally finish the task that you have been trying so hard to complete.

Growth Mindset - Part 2

1. It basically means that if you make a mistake, don't give up. Try to learn from what you did wrong and use it as an advantage the next time you try to achieve the same thing.

2. Recently, my computer started acting weird and so I realized that something was wrong with it. I decided to open it up and saw a ton of dust inside it. Thanks to this I have learned that I need to clean my computer more often and not just let it be.

3. If I were to build a robot I would most likely do it after a manual. I would try again and try to read the manual more carefully. I would also consider myself a "problem solver" since I like to use different methods to test what is wrong.

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Growth Mindset - Part 1

1. Mojo wants to leave school because he feels like he is not smart enough to be there. Of course, I have felt like I am not smart enough to finish certain tasks at times, but I have never felt so dumb that I want to leave school.

2. Katie tells Mojo that everybody's brains keep on growing as soon as you learn something new, according to modern scientists. Therefor Mojo decided to keep on practicing so he can get smarter as his brain keeps on growing.

3. If it's true that the brain works like a muscle and constantly grows as soon as you learn something new, Mojo can definitely become smarter. If he keeps on practicing hard things his brain will, sooner or later, learn the new things

4. I do feel slightly frustrated at Maths and Social Science at times. There's no specific reason why sometimes it just feels too hard to finish certain tasks. I'm pretty sure I can improve in all subjects, and that's why I'm here, in school.

The Third Week of Reading Summary

This week I read to page 52.

This week's reading begins with Link trying to fall asleep in the doorway on the opposite side of the road of the train station. Later during the night, Link feels the urge to pee. so he decides to quickly pack his stuff together and walk to the toilets in the station. When he comes back to the doorway, another homeless person has taken his place, and when Link asks him to leave, the person gets aggressive and demands Link's watch, that he recieved as a present from his mother.

Link then decides to look for a new place to sleep, and finds another doorway nearby. He tries to sleep but after a little while a person called Ginger shows up. Ginger asks if he can sleep next to Link, and Link accepts.

The next day Link and Ginger gets waken up by two cops, that tells them that they have to leave the doorway, and so they do. They then eat breakfast at a kebab place and then Ginger introduces Link to the world of begging.

The Second Week of Reading Summary

This week I read to page 31.

The part that I read this week starts of with Link arriving in London. He starts his journey by looking for a place to live. He finds some ads and decides to find a place to sleep. After some search, he finds a place where he can sleep for 50 pounds a week.

After that he makes his way to the Job Centre where he can find a job to pay the rent of his new home. However, the staff at the Job Centre tells Link that he needs his parents agreement if he is under 18 and looking for a job. Since Link's parents are pretty dumb, according to himself at least, he declares that he will come back to the Job Centre later.

Meanwhile, Shelter has found his first "recruit". The recruit is a homeless person and Shelter decides to trick the person into believing that there's beds and food for homeless persons at a place nearby.

Later that night, Shelter murders the person. However, Shelter proposes that what he has done is not murder, as he is helping England to get rid of all the homeless persons. He also explains how he has hidden the body under the floor, where there's very cold. Thanks to this, the body won't start smelling and Shelter can get away with the murder pretty easily.

The First Week of Reading Summary

This week, I only read to page 19, as I didn't have much to time to read this week. Luckily, you are supposed to read at your own pace, which means that I can just catch up if I read more next week.

Summary: The book starts with a brief explanation of Link, the main character, and his current situation. After that the first chapter begins. In this chapter we get to know Link as a child. He explains that he had a good childhood and that his family was as happy as ever, until his father ran away with another woman. Link's mom then got together with a man called Vince that, according to Link, is a real idiot. He explains the situation he had at home and how it mucked up his schoolwork. After school he didn't manage to get a job because of the sucky grades he got. He also explains a few events that turned out to make Link a homeless person.

By this time we've also met the second most important character, Shelter. Shelter is a former military who sees it as his mission to erase all the homeless persons from the streets of London. Shelter also explains why he ended up being kicked out from the military and how there apparently is a plot in the English government.

The Adventures of a Backpacker

Hannes's Diary - 24th of March year 2032 // Fifth day of the Australia trip

Hello Diary!

Before going on this trip, I had decided that I should not write anything in my Diary, as it takes way too much time. However, I had to change my mind after what happened to me a few days ago.

So, a few days ago we all agreed to take a trip out to the famous Uluru rock, also known as Ayers rock. We rented a few dirt bikes from a local car rental centre and drove out to the bush. After about an hour of driving we finally saw the gigantic landmark in the horizon. Once we had arrived at the rock we agreed that we wanted to climb it. Ever since the technological revolution in year 2020, there is now a so called "Super-elevator" that takes you to the top of the rock in just a few seconds, according to the big sign next to elevator at least.

After discussing it for a while, we decided not to take the easy way up the rock, we wanted to climb it instead. We went to the tourist centre just around the corner and asked what the best way to climb the rock was. At first, the young woman that was standing in the information booth looked at us as if we were stupid. She then asked us if we were aware that there was a high-tech elevator that could get us up on the rock faster than we could imagine. We answered that we knew this, but that we had decided to climb the rock instead. The woman understood and told us that we should turn to a man named Olof. He was apparently an expert in climbing but now he worked as a security executive around the rock.

After about half an hour we found Olof in his office above the tourist centre. We asked him to help us and he accepted as he didn't have anything better to do at the moment. He brought us with him to what was seen as the backside of the rock. He started preparing the climbing equipment and once he was done he explained that only one of us could climb at a time. I volunteered to be the first one to climb, and did so without any major problems. Or at least without major problems on my way up there, but once I was finally done with my climb a very strange thing happened. I suddenly heard something whisper in my ear, it said "Hannes, don't do it". I looked around to find out what could possibly have said it to me, but without any success. I leaned over the edge to see who was the next to climb up and it looked like it was Tim's turn. I turned around to check out the view, but what I saw was something much more terrifying. A big man, around two and a half metres tall, stood in front of me. He wore a big red coat and a black mask that covered his entire face. The mask had a dragons face with a few characters drawn on the forehead painted on it. About a thousand thoughts went through my head as I saw the man. First of, who was he? Secondly, how on earth did he manage to move so fast? We just stood there staring at each other for almost a minute until he finally broke the silence. Or well, I didn't understand what he said but there definitely was some kind of sound coming out of his mouth that I couldn't see. The sound almost sounded like a musical tone. After a while more and more musical tones came out of the man's mouth. They made me dizzier and dizzier and after a while I probably passed out.

When I woke up Olof's face was the first thing I saw. He said something about me passing out because of the heat, but i almost didn't notice it since the only thing I could remember was the last thing the man said before I passed out, "This is a place for the spirits, get out, Hannes".

To this day I haven't told anyone about what happened to me on Uluru rock, and I have no idea if it was even real....

English Comparison

In this blog post I will do a few comparisons between the countries Sweden and Australia.

The biggest city in Australia is called Sydney. The population of Sydney is around 4 800 000 people and the area is about 12 300 square kilometers. This means that it lives around 380 people per square kilometer in Sydney. The biggest city in Sweden is called Stockholm and it is also the capital of Sweden, while Sydney is not the capital of Australia. Stockholm holds about two and a half million inhabitants (including all the suburbs), while the area of the city (including all the suburbs) is around 570 square kilometers. This means that it lives about 4 900 per square kilometer in Stockholm, which means that Stockholm has much higher "density" than Sydney has. This is probably due to the fact that Stockholm is much smaller than Sydney, but that Stockholm has higher buildings and houses than Sydney. Sydney has, as earlier mentioned, more inhabitants than Stockholm, and it is due to the fact that Sydney is a much bigger city than Stockholm.

The total of area of Australia is about 7.7 million square kilometers, and most of it is covered by a huge desert, which is said to be uninhabitable, therefor the total population density in Australia is very small. The population lies around 2 inhabitants per square kilometer. The total area of Sweden is about 450 000 is about square kilometers. The population density of Sweden is about 20 inhabitants per square kilometer, which is ten times higher than the population density of Australia, and this is due to the fact that a big part of Australia is covered in desert.
