Summary of Discussions About Racism

During the last two lessons of English, we have had discussions about racism around the world. Our teacher gave us discussion questions in order to get a good debate going. 

From what I saw and heard during the discussion, everyone in our class do agree that racism is a big problem in our society. We also discussed things such as whether racism was taught or not, and after a few minutes of debate, we all agreed that racism is indeed taught by either someone or something.

We also watched two short anti-racism ads. In the first one, a person was putting on some kind of facial cream. The thing with the cream though was that it made the person uglier instead. At the end of the ad, it was revealed that the cream she was putting on was "racism".

The second clip was called "What would you do?" and it was a social experiment. In the video, a white person and a black person tried to steal a bike, in order to get reactions from the strangers that were passing by. When the white kid was trying to steal the bike, people got suspicious and asked him what he was trying to do, but nobody responded with calling 911. When the black kid was trying to steal the bike, the people instantly responded with aggressive personal attacks and calling 911.

We also discussed punishments for those guilty of racism but didn't really come up with any good examples.
